Gamba are in talks with Al-Sadd with a view to secure the permanent signing of Leandro.
The Brazilian is currently on loan from the Qatari side and is contracted to stay at the club until the summer but Gamba hope to retain his services beyond that deadline. Al-Sadd mentioned the possibility of Gamba buying the player when they announced his transfer back in June so hopefully the two clubs can come to an amicable agreement.
Leandro originally joined Gamba from Kansai rivals Vissel Kobe in January 2009 and set Osaka alight with his incredible knack for finding the back of the net, scoring 22 goals in 29 appearances including a club record 10 Champions League goals. His stay ended just a few months later as he was tempted to the Middle East but he fell out of favour at Al-Sadd and ended up on loan to fellow Qatari side Al-Rayyan before making a shock return to Banpaku in June and going on to net 15 times in 18 appearances to become the 15th highest goalscorer of all time for the club. At his current rate of striking a full season in J2 would see him easily pass Masanobu Matsunami’s haul of 67 goals to move into 2nd.
