Gamba are believed to have made an attempt to extend Akihiro Ienaga’s loan from Mallorca.
The midfielder returned to Banpaku in the summer but the current deal runs out on December 31, which would see him miss out on the chance to play in the Emperor’s Cup final if Gamba qualify. The club are currently awaiting a response from the Spanish side but hope to secure a deal to keep him until the end of 2013.
Ienaga originally played for Gamba between 2004 and 2007 before loan spells with Oita Trinita and Cerezo Osaka. He moved to Europe in December 2010 but the venture didn’t really work out for him and he was back in Asia just over a year later with South Korean club Ulsan Hyundai. Life in Korea didn’t suit him either so he jumped at the chance to return to Osaka in July and has so far scored 5 goals in 15 appearances this season.
